Née en 1965 dans la banlieue parisienne, enseignant-chercheur en littérature anglaise par profession, je mène un travail photographique autodidacte de longue date. C'est un commencement classique : le cadeau d’un appareil photo, un Lubitel 6x6, offert à l’occasion du huitième anniversaire ; le laboratoire photo amateur familial.
Le passage au numérique m'amène à concevoir la publication web de mon journal photographique : le projet Chaque. Journal photographique est ouvert en 2006, et est toujours en cours. L’exploration de la question de la publication devient centrale dans mon travail : une première exposition individuelle (Comment les gens, Punta Ala Caffè, Paris, 2008) et la participation aux lectures de portfolios aux Rencontres photographiques d’Arles (2008 et 2009) sont les points de départ d’une réflexion expérimentale sur le rapport de public propre à la culture photographique.
La rencontre à Arles avec le groupe de photographes réunies dans l'exposition women x women, et le projet d’un travail croisé autour de la question des féminités contemporaines, sont une étape également déterminante dans la réalisation de la curiosité politique comme moteur intime du travail. De là l’ouverture d’un nouveau projet photographique, actuellement en cours, qui explore l’idée du peuple photographique, intitulé Boulevard.
Le mouvement qui m'a fait comprendre la nature sociale de ce que j'avais longtemps pris comme un travail intimiste m'a également entraînée dans une exploration des formes culturelles, ethnographiques, du documentaire, auprès de Natan Dvir, Joseph Rodriguez, et Harvey Stein, au International Center of Photography (New York).
Born in 1965 in the outskirts of Paris, and a teacher and scholar of English literature by profession, I have been photographing since childhood. It is a story common to many self-taught photographers: the gift of a camera, a medium format Lubitel, on the occasion of my eighth birthday; the family home photo lab.
The change to digital photography enables me to open my photographic diary to public viewing, online: the Chaque. Journal photographique project opens in 2006, and is still ongoing currently. The exploration of the publication process becomes central to my work: a first solo exhibition (Comment les gens [How One], Punta Ala Caffè, Paris, 2008), and the participation in the 2008 and 2009 Portfolio reviews at the Rencontres photographiques d’Arles are starting points for my experimental reflection on the contact between image and public peculiar to photographic culture.
The meeting at Arles with the group of photographers who came together in the women x women show, and the project of crossing perspectives on contemporary modes of womanhood, are again a major step in realizing the political curiosity which is at the heart of my work. It has already made possible the planning of a new project on which I am currently at work, Boulevard [People Here], exploring the notion of a “photographic people”.
Gradually recognising the social nature of work which I had initially understood as intimist, I have been drawn to an exploration of the cultural forms and the ethnographic quality of documentary photography, in the classes of Natan Dvir, Joseph Rodriguez, and Harvey Stein at the International Center of Photography (New York).
